Greetings unto the list from Lord Stephen Macthomas, Seneschal of Gate's Edge:
This June 3, the Canton of Gate's Edge will be celebrating the occasion of
our 10th annual Midsummer Faire at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
As some of you may know, Midsummer Faire consists of seven competitions:
chivalric, rapier, archery, A&S, bardic, dance and games. It is the desire
of the Canton of Gate's Edge to promote participation in all the things the
SCA has to offer, and in the spirit of this we have organized our Faire in
this manner. The Champion of the Faire is determined by overall performance
in no less than five of these seven events. (Thus, it is possible for this
Champion to be a non-fighter, if he or she participates in the other five
competitions.)
To help commemorate this festive occasion of Midsummer Faire X, I am
sponsoring a scavenger hunt, with all the quests revolving around the history
of our Canton. This year, we are also asking that the good gentle lord or
lady that would be victorious in our competitions also undertake this
scavenger hunt, so that our tenth Champion will be versed in the history of
the Canton they will represent. Performance in the scavenger hunt will not
be considered when determining our Champion; in keeping with the spirit of
Midsummer Faire, participation is the key.
If there are any who have memories of Gate's Edge, whether you be a former
member or officer of our populace, a past Champion of the Faire, or someone
who has an anecdote from past Midsummer Faires, please contact me privately
by Sunday, May 14 (Mother's Day) to share your stories of the history of our
Canton. My contact information is listed in the April Black Star.
I am looking forward to conducting this scavenger hunt, and of learning and
sharing the history of Gate's Edge with you all.
In your service,
Lord Stephen Macthomas
Seneschal, Canton of Gate's Edge
