The mad King could be considered the great grand daddy of the SCA for his endevors.  What are we doing when we play dress up?  Are we trying to actualy recreate the middle ages?  How many of us are willing to contract the plague or disentary for the weekend to actually "feel" the middle ages?  How is swinging a rattan club like wielding a sword duing the battle of Hastings?  How is poking with a blunted wire the same as fencing in old Italy?  How is a medieval castle built in 18th century Germany, or modern Austin period.  It is because we wish it to be.  We believe it to be.  Now, whether this castle is authentic, or not is not really the question.  But, if you wish to assault it to see if it can withstand an attack, I'm sure the inhabitants would be willing to dump hot, burning oil on you from the tower.

I have never been a big fan of mad King Ludwig, and though pretty,
Neuschwanstein is a real waste.  I would much rather build something closer
to a real castle.  Closer to the correct re-creation that I would like to
see.

A little more tact would be nice, but like the man said, to each his own
opinion.

I think the biggest problem I have with the negative comments made about the
castle is the fact that Castle Falkenstein is a dream of the owners.   The
comments made (expletive) all over that dream. If I am not mistaken (please
correct me if I am wrong), the people who are building the castle play SCA.
How do you know that they haven't seen or heard about the negative comments?
Whether or not they play doesn't really matter though. How would you like it
if you shared a dream of yours with someone and they ripped it apart?
Probably wouldn't like it too much.  We should ALL keep that in mind
whenever we make critical posts to the list.

I have to ask, is every single thing you do/make/say, etc. completely
historically accurate? If not, then your comments are not only rude, but
hypocritical as well.

Sounds to me like maybe someone is a little jealous...
