[Stargate] [Hou-announce] populace meetings

Regarding Ryan's, besides the noisy ice machine as a drawback, they are closing on Monday's at 8:30 pm now. Our meeting often run later than that. And the food is not that great, actually its getting really bad (opinion not only I share). A couple of us have already been dining after the meeting at a different and tastier place.

Regarding the church's requiring security for events, yes they do. To set up on Friday night before event we pay a small security charge.

Regarding rush hour traffic, its Houston. Traffic is bad everywhere and it is going to get worse on 290 when the expansion construction of 610 makes it to the 290 exit. We are already seeing night time and weekend construction that backs 290 up three to four exits (34th St. is two exits from 610).

Even if Resurrection Church or even the library is not agreeable to everyone it is better than settling for a location like Ryan's where several of us who have been to populace lately have mention its decline. Our Barony is not hurting financially (not even close), but I understand the want for a freebie. But not all free things are the best things for us. The location we pick to have our meetings can effect us. At my first populace meeting I actually left Ryan's without getting out of my car because it looked very scary for a solo female.

So lets not settle for anything that does not help us, if that means we keep looking than everyone help out and keep looking and asking around.

Unfortunately, libraries reallly do have some significant drawbacks, mostly concerning hours/availability. As for a church, I'd say only if it's free, and doesn't require people to navigate through lots of local rush hour traffic to get to it. Ryan's does get noisy when the ice machine runs, but maybe we should just pursue the possibility of turning off the ice machine for the brief time we're there - I've witnessed them doing just that at times when it's gotten really obnoxious, so it might be possible. Ryan's may not be ideal in every way, but it's free, it hasn't posed any availability problems to speak of, it's got a good meeting room setup for us, in a pinch you can eat there, and it's centrally located right off a major freeway. That's a lot of points in its favor, compared to the periodically noisy ice machine...
