To garb, or not to garb....

Back in the day when I was a new-comer,  whenever we had a new-comer's revel 
or  old-comers would come to show their craft/skill, they would come in 
garb.  It let us 'newbies' see what clothing was acceptable and appropriate 
for SCA gatherings and we could ask more questions about costuming and garb.

So, IMNSHO, garb would be very appropriate tonight.

To summarize --

Newcomers Revel at 7pm tonight (August 19) at the home of HL Mea Passavanti
(1425 Waseca; Houston 77055).

Everyone is welcome - newcomers, sorta newcomers, and non-newcomers alike.
The purpose of this revel is to introduce our newcomers to some of the "ins
and outs" of life in the SCA and Kingdom of Ansteorra. Our Hospitaler,
Ciarnat, will bring hand-outs and garb for show and tell.

Some general topics for open discussion:
- Attending your first even (what you'll need, how to get involved);
- Forms of address (various ranks and dignities);
- Persona development (times, places, clothing, heraldry, names);
- I'm interested in.....Who can I talk to? (making connections).

This is a pot-luck dinner party, so please bring:
- a dish to share
- your beverage of choice
- a chair

What people have said they will bring:
Mea - paper goods; ice; chilled salmon
Anne & Corvin - gazpacho, fruit salad, lemonade
Genvieve - plates, cups, utensils; side dish (cous cous with spinach &
feta?)
Alden & Alessandra - disposable bowls, plates, utensils; Mexican cornbread
casserole?
Ciarnat - 1 card table & 5 chairs, table cloth and a sliced cold ham, 1
package of paper napkins
Caitlin - dessert?
Snaebjorn - BBQ chicken?
Sorian - fruit trays & soda
Amie, Wolfon & Kristian - main dish (gumbo) or dessert or salad or fruit
something?

Finally, no one ever answered the question what people should wear to this
revel. I think that since newcomers might not have historical clothing
(i.e., garb) yet, it would be appropriate for everyone to wear modern
(mundane) clothing.
