[Stargate] Stargate camp meal plan at BAM

Greetings all!

 

At the October Populace meeting, it was announced that there will be a
Stargate camp at BAM and that we will have a camp kitchen with a shared meal
plan. In a fit of insanity, I volunteered to be the kitchen coordinator, and
probably by default, the camp coordinator. We did this last year at BAM on a
small scale and at Gulf Wars on a larger scale, so it should be familiar to
some of you.

 

Here's how it works:

 

.         We will have a common pavilion and a kitchen tent in camp.

.         There will be 5 meals served in camp: breakfast and dinner on
Friday, breakfast and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday.

.         Meals are $5 per person per meal. 

.         Sign up now; pay me in cash at BAM.

.         The deadline for signing up to participate is Thursday, November
8th. If you don't sign up by then, there is no guarantee that there will be
enough food for you. If you choose to participate, you don't have to
participate in all of the meals. You do, however, have to specify which
meals you will be participating in.

.         Participation in the meal plan means helping in the kitchen as
well as eating. In addition to cooks, we need people to help the cooks prep,
cook, and serve meals, people to clean up after meals, people to help set up
and take down the kitchen/common pavilion, people to be responsible for
hauling away the trash, and people to help pack and load kitchen equipment,
and anything else the kitchen coordinator needs. 

.         We need people to volunteer to cook. Cooks have a budget of $4 per
person. The other $1 covers the cost of disposable dinnerware and utensils,
trash bags, propane, instant beverages, etc. The cooks pay for the food they
prepare and get reimbursed at BAM.

.         We don't have a menu yet because we don't know who all of the
cooks are yet.

 

Meals:

 

.         Friday breakfast - the kitchen most likely will not be set up in
time to cook on Friday morning, so this meal should be cold foods like
yogurt, pastries, breakfast bars, etc. 

.         Friday dinner - hot food prepared or heated in camp (main course,
salad, bread, dessert are recommended)

.         Saturday breakfast - hot food with a decent balance of protein and
carbs, including fresh fruit like bananas; needs to be served early enough
to allow for relocation of some kitchen equipment to Stargate soup kitchen
by lyst field

.         Saturday dinner - hot food prepared or heated in camp (main
course, salad, bread, dessert are recommended); needs to be served either
before or after evening court

.         Sunday breakfast - hot or cold, bearing in mind that the kitchen
has to be broken down and packed

.         The cost of each meal includes disposable plates, bowls, utensils,
paper towels, drinking water, and an assortment of instant hot beverages
(teas, cider, cocoa, lemonade). It does NOT cover beverages other than those
listed or drinking vessels, so please bring your own. 

 

If you want to participate in the meal plan (i.e., if you want to eat meals
with Stargate), here's what you need to do:

 

.         Sign up for meals - Email me no later than Thursday, November 8th
to let me know which meals you will be eating (imstephw at swbell.net). I need
a head count by Thursday, November 8th so that our cooks know how much food
to buy. If you do not sign up, there is no guarantee that there will be
enough food to include you. 

.         Sign up to help in the kitchen - Once again I will emphasize that
participation means helping in the kitchen as well as eating. When you email
me about the meals you're eating, please tell me when and how you're
willing/able to help, otherwise I'll make random assignments. 

.         Pay for your meals - I will be accepting cash payments in camp at
BAM. 

.         Bring your own drinking vessel.

.         Bring your own chair to use in camp. 

 

Information for cooks (or prospective cooks):

 

.         You have a budget of $4 per person per meal.

.         I will reimburse you for your food costs at BAM. 

.         I will purchase and bring all of the disposable supplies
(disposable plates, bowls, utensils, paper towels, trash bags) and the
instant beverages (assorted teas, hot cocoa, and lemonade).

.         I will bring my kitchen set up, which includes stove, propane,
trash can, tables, pots and pans, cooking utensils, chafing dishes, and
cleaning supplies. 

.         Bring your own ice chest to store the food you are cooking/serving
and ice to keep it cold. Bring 4 gallons of drinking water with you for camp
use.

.         Please email me immediately if you would like to cook one of the
meals.
