ST - Tragedy at Estrella

I am just back from Estrella.

It is true that three persons died from fumes in their tents. A couple went to bed with a propane heater in a completely sealed nylon tent; they were discovered on Saturday morning. When the battles began a little later, one company noticed that they were one short, and upon investigation the missing soldier was found in his tent, also completely sealed with a propane heater running.

This on top of at least three tent fires caused by inappropriately handled lighting implements, two of which were simply too close to the canvas. One resulted in second-degree burns for the person who tried to put out the fire with his bare hands.

While not diminishing the loss of life or property, it should be noted that using these implements, especially the ones with propane, will significantly reduce the chances or fire and/or death.

                                        ---= Morgan
