It will be a medieval Faire sponsored by the SMU Medieval club and underwritten by the Tate Lecture series. This is what I would consider our best target profile for recruitment. we need to let them know fairly quickly if we can do this. Please consider this demo as a very high profile event. Anybody who wants to help, please let me know! They would like to see: 1) Heavy and/or rapier fighters 2) Dancing (I can teach if someone has music) 3) A&S displays/talking I have a few volunteers, can use more, of course. The current time schedule is this: 6:30pm - show up and set up 7:00pm - dinner (we are invited to eat!) 8:00pm - fighting demo (OK, the fighters/rapier might not eat) 8:30pm - flirting nad dancing demos with audience participation 9:00pm - A&S displays and discussion All the 8:00pm-onwards stuff to be adjusted as necessary, based upon who will be there. They will have three or four tables in the corners for us and I thought a balance of A&S (jewelry, herbalism, C&I, leatherworking, emberoidery, mail making, whatever) would be best. I will be taking a boombox (in case they don't have a setup) and as many CDs and cassettes as I can remember to bring. Does anybody have "Hole in the Wall" on a CD or cassette? I think it's a good dance to use if we are trying to teach about flirting, less chance of collisions than "Amoroso." Okay, what I'd like (rough idea) to get together for this is: A few people doing A&S, so that nobody is swamped by questions. I want to have three, so we can take breaks. If people can bring completed A&S projects, that would be fantastic. I will bring display tables if we can bring things to display. A few people to demo fighting, since they've specifically requested it. I'd also like to have enough people that we can give everyone a breather. I will be bringing handouts on easy garb and spinning and possibly other things. It would seem that changing the starting time back to noon agreed with many as we had a 75% increase in attendance. Also about a third of those archers attending did so in semi or full period costume. Poor "Bob" (our silhouette combat target) is in a bad state needing some repair due to the rain of combat missiles knocking his face clean off late in the day. But we should have him fixed and back into service for next week. We all had a great time and I invite you to join us next Sunday at noon. Come work your skill with bow & shaft, whether it be for target archery, combat archery, or if you just want to learn how to use a bow. This next week we will start the day with our February children/youth's shoot so bring the kids and let them compete. Combat archers bring your equipment and get a pre-check before Border War so you won't have to spend any time making adjustments on the site. Not to mention get a bit of practice time in pounding on poor "Bob". In service, Ld.
