While in DC last weekend, I saw this exhibit: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/world/world-object.html

While it covers a wide range of dates, a number of the objects are pre-1600. These include a Chinese scroll explaining the beginning of Taoism; Korean type from the 13th Centry and early printing; the first book published in the Western Hemisphere (1541, Mexico); Copernicus' "A Heliocentric Cosmos"; a 13th-Century CE "De Proprietatibus Rerum" (The Properties of Things); a 14th-Century CE view of the universe as coloured layers; a 15th-Century CE book that helped move from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar; and a pagoda scroll from Japan in the 8th Century CE. Many more items are in the exhibit itself, if you have a chance to go and look.
