With the utmost respect, I must disagree with my apprentice brother, Andrew
(whom most of you know as Purple).

I was a nearby merchant to this New World Arbalest for three years. In that
time, I saw the behavior described below. In many cases, prospective
customers would stand out into the walkway that runs between booths and
'trial shoot' their weapons.

I know that many who were closer to this booth than I were alarmed by this
practice, and I know that during Pennsic 28 and 29, there were complaints
registered with the Merchant's Office, and that warnings were issued. I also
know that during Pennsic 30, when I was still a near neighbor, but my booth
was back to the one in disussion, that more complaints were made.

Also, during Pennsic 28 and 29, the toy crossbows for sale at the mentioned
booth were also used to shoot toy quarrels and other minature stock into the
walkway, and over the walkway, with several ending up in my booth, some
after they'd hit my customers or my staff. I know that one of the booths
immediately next to me had also dealt with this problem.

Asking that this practice be stopped brought us no result.

During those same wars, I was also concerned about the bouts of fencing that
happened in and around this booth. It was mostly in the early morings, but
after merchants had opened for business, and did spill out into the common
walkwas

I understand the unhappiness of those involved in the situation. But seeing
what as gone before, and having dealt with it in the past few wars, I cannot
say I fault Cindy Cooper in her ruling. I know that there are many who will
disagree with me, and I uphold their right to do so. As merchants, we all
know that she cruises the site regularly, often incognito, and checks us out
to make sure we're sticking to the rules. I know that she's been in my
booth, incognito, and I know she wasn't just checking me out.

What I relate to you are things I saw with my own eyes, and I will stand by
them. I know that stating my case this plainly may lose me customers, and,
sadly, friends. But I feel I must discuss what I saw. Being present to these
sorts of things gives one a much different perspective.

I am not attending war this year, so if you'd like to disagree with me
personally, feel free to address your thoughts to: karenhjohnson at neo.rr.com.
