OK, here's a quick update responding to some of you're phone calls.
- Feast weapons do not have to be made of wood. We will permit use
of plastic, PVC, or other materials as long as the MIC deems the
mini-weapon safe to use and they met the construction rules.
- So called "mouse trap" or spring powered catapults are OK to use as
long as they are deemed safe by the MIC.
- No we're not allowing mini-compound crossbows!
- No we will not allow you to use frozen grapes!
- And yes mini, baby, or feast weapons (crossbows, trebuchets, &
catapults) can be purchased. You are not going to find them in your
local stores however you can find vendors on-line by typing either
"mini, baby, or feast" followed by "crossbow, trebucet, or catapult"
(whatever you are looking for) into your search engine. Most are
reasonably priced ($10 - $45) and will display both color pictures
and descriptions of their offered wares including their ranges for
hurling marshmallows (use your best guess for grapes)! Next day
delivery should get them here in time for 12th Night if you act quickly,
but you will have to work that out with the vendor yourself!
I am encouraged at all the responses and the contest would seem to
be shaping up into a very competitive one. Thank god we're just using
grapes, otherwise we might have to pass out sheets of plastic to our
spectators in the front row!
We are asking for volunteers (especially those whom are good with
small children) for assisting marshals & list babes to help lend a bit
of order to the possible chaos.
Thanks,
Ironwyrm

Greetings all,
After careful consideration (and some severe arm twisting on our archery
marshal's part) I have cheerfully agreed to volunteer to marshal the table
top weaponry competition during our coming Steppes 12th Night event.
So I wished to post the competition's rules to give folks some idea of what
to expect.
Competition Rules:
- All feast weaponry must be able to fit within a twelve inch circle
(That's inside of a large feast plate).
- Two categories permitted - 1) HAND HELD (mini-crossbows), cannot
exceed a five pound draw limit. 2) FREE STANDING (table trebuchet
& catapults), may be held steady but the base cannot be raised off
table while firing.
- Only grapes will be permitted as ammo during this competition.
- The whole "grape shot" must remain inside the targeted containers
to be counted (they do not have to remain intact). Any halved upon the
outer target rim do not count as a whole grape. "Grape shot" halved
on the inner rim shall count as the lesser point. All questionable
shots shall be resolved by the assisting marshals.
- Any "grape shot" destroyed by the weapon or misfired during the
competitor's scoring round will be counted as a spent shot (So chose
your ammo well!).
- All contestants will be allowed two minutes for six practice shots
followed by two minutes to complete six scoring shots (All previous
"grape shots" will be removed from target prior to the scoring round.).
- All contestants will be firing from a seated position behind a table
at an unspecified ranged target (Somewhere between twenty & thirty
feet distance.).
- Competitor with the highest score will be declared the winner!
- Contest will run for two hours and be held sometime between 1 &
4 PM at our Lord & Lady Steppes' pleasure (And weather permitting of
course!).
Please note: We do not intend to limit the age of the participants but please
remember no matter how low the risk of injury we still are using projectiles
so we will be following Ansteorra's archery rules concerning parental & legal
guardian supervision for children.
Sorry we do not have loaner equipment for this competition. All equipment
must be inspected and approved by attending marshals prior to it's use during
the contest.
I hope you shall chose to join us for this extremely fun and entertaining food
flinging target competition.
Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me privately.
In service,
HL Wm. Ironwyrm
