Ancient Rome, the remarkable city that launched an empire, is known for
its tales of gods and heroes. Classical Italian artists favored
mythological figures as their subject matter, portraying them as patrons
of the arts, heroes of superhuman strength, and gods of various merits and
attributes. Now on view at the Metropolitan, the exhibition "Poets,
Lovers, and Heroes in Italian Mythological Prints," explores the myths
innate in the art of ancient Rome. The Met Store's reproductions evoke the
