[Steppes] To my computer literate friends- Advice please.

I'm sorry for the bandwidth but I feel sure someone in my SCA friends
can give me some advice on a mundane question I have.
 
I want to build a DVD duplicator so I can make copies of DVD's I created
for sale. I can buy a hard drive based system for $1500.00 but feel I
could build a cheap computer with a hard drive and 3 - 4 DVD burners for
a lot less. Then as I need more capacity I could add on burners.
 
It must be stable, easy to use and have some way to check the duplicated
disk for errors ECT. 
 
Am I missing some obvious pitfall here?
 
I've searched Goggle for a how-to article but found nothing so it makes
me concerned I'm barking up the wrong tree.
