As many of you may know, the local branch of American Mensa, known as
North Texas Mensa, has asked us to have a demo at their Regional
Gathering over Thanksgiving weekend.  As a member of both groups, they
asked me to organize it.  We used to do this demo nearly every year, but
stopped some years back.  It is a demo to people who are actually
interested in esoteric stuff, and who are smart enough to ask some good
questions. 

 

I appeal to my Barony to put on a good demo here.  A lot of us are
members of both groups (including Rupert and Caireen, Suzanna, and
myself) and some of us became members of the SCA through the demos at
Mensa.  The demo is being held on Friday afternoon of Thanksgiving
weekend, indoors in a nice hotel, we have about four hours to fill, and
they are interested in anything and everything!  Our merchants (with
valid Texas tax licenses) are invited to set up, our fighters are
requested (indoor fighting - do you prefer carpeting or wooden floor?),
and actual demonstrations are requested -- I'm taking several looms,
Mistress Kalida will have both her pottery for sale and some raw clay
for coil or pinch work, and HL Lete has volunteered to do calligraphy.
What we need are fighters (both types), other artisans, and those who
would just like to show off some of their Court costumes and form
atmosphere!  There will be changing facilities near the ballroom that
they are allotting us for the demo. 

 

In return, the NTM RG offers us free attendance at the gathering for the
day of the demo, which includes our nationally-famous hospitality suite
for food and drinks.  I do have to know in advance if you plan to attend
so that the NTM people at registration have some idea of how many name
tags (generic to SCA) need to be produced (and how many extra to plan
for in Hospitality!).

 

If you are going to be in town for Thanksgiving, and would be willing to
give up some time to possibly recruit some new members, please contact
me off-list at alkudsi at aol.com .  And if someone who has access to the
Elfsea and Lindenwood lists would post this, I would appreciate it. More
detailed information of where and what hours are involved will be
forthcoming.
