You know, except for the eye-watering colors that period dyers would have loved, this isn't that far off, pattern-wise, from some late period Turkish and Arabic designs.  Everything old is new again....
 
The truly scary part to me is I had a mini-skirt in a very similar pattern when I was in college!  Now, THAT is really a terrifying thought!
