Am finishing up a crossbow to shoot at warlord. I used a highly figured cherry stock and on this build cut some mammoth ivory to use for inserts and a bolt rest. The cutting went well using the suggested sharp tools, i used a dremal to shape it and now i am at the stage i need to final fit it and then polish it.

What is best to bring it into finished state before polishing? and then what is best to polish it and not impart the color of the polishing compound into it.

This is the first time i have really played with ivory and i have to say it is fun - except the god aweful smell when cutting and grinding it. This build is kind of special as well, everything on the crossbow including the prod is hand/self made. I have never had as many isues in building as this one - but its been worth it. Including the two weeks of staring at the ivory before i cut it trying to get over the fear hehehe.
