[Steppes] Steppes Fighter Practice - 02-20-2005

Heilsa,

The day was warm and sunny with a good breeze, another fine day in 
February to be in armor and being at fighter practice.

Remember - three more weeks and counting until  those leaving for Gulf 
Wars will be on the road.

And in between there is a Joint War Practice being held with Steppes and 
Elfsea, with Steppes hosting at Mary Heads Carter (MHC) park in 
Carrollton at 2 PM until everyone is ready to call it a day on Sunday 
March 6th, 2005. Combat archery will be part of the scenarios.

Regina - who came out to enjoy the bright sunny day and to watch the 
fighting. She was catching up
on her knitting as well.

Currently we have 4 people named Mike and two who are named Matt and two 
named Duncan.
So the naming convention as follows:
I will use the SCA name if known and hopefully will get the correct 
spelling as well.
Matt(S) is for Matt, whose wife is Sara(SCA sp?)
Matt(N) is new and this day was his first time in armor.

Mike(GV) were GV represent Greenville.
Mike (R/W) for the colors of Red and white that he wears.
The other two Mike's have different SCA names and have been not problem 
in identifying.

Duncan - one is Sir Duncan and the other is just Duncan, which have not 
been an issue.

Standard Rule - the more experience fighters providing instructions to 
the less experience fighters. This applies at all levels at this 
practice. The individuals that I witnessed this day providing 
instruction a way variety of weapons and shields being used.

Hrafn providing instruction in basic fighting techniques with Matt(N).

CinaedOHosey instructing on basic sword shots to Mike(GV) both using a 
modified ax handle and then onto
various types of shields and swords. FInally settled on the war shield 
strapped in the Roman manner.

Sir Duncan providing instruction concerning advance sword fighting 
techniques for Kimball, Centurion Morgan, CinaedOHosey,
and I believe Roc and Hrafn attended a portion of this.

Mike(R/W) now has a new shield, instead of the oblong round shield. This 
new shield is made of birch wood - which he acquired from Roc.
Sir Duncan and Roc assisted Mike(R/W) in strapping this shield and he 
was able to fight with it this day.

There were some 2 on 1 melees going on as well. Question - how well 
would you do in such an encounter?
