Actually you are thinking very much along the same lines as I have been...
I plan on restricting the group to the under 16 set...I figure after 16 they can pretty much " play with the adults" although I would welcome the 16 and up youth to assist with the younger set, much as when I was in Girl Scouts the Senior Scouts assisted with the troops of the younger scouts.
Thank you very much for your input...I am glad to see people take an idea and run with it...this goes for all who have put in their 2 shekels:)

I like the Guild of the Oaken Star as an overall, however I'm wondering if
we may wish to have some subgroups

This may be a bad analogy but would it maybe make sense to have several
different subgroups, in the way the girl guides or boy scouts do? Not sure
on the designations in the states, but the little kids were beavers, then
cub scouts, and scouts.

Due to the wide age ranges of the children it's difficult to expect them all
to want to be of the same group, or even focus on the same activities. As
the children age, they'll certainly grow their own tastes, be they martial,
arts, sciences or service and may very well wish to pursue those goals
whereas the youngers ones would tend to be more interested in play
activities.

Breaking out the groups a little bit, could enhance the camarederie of the
younger set, and allow for a more diverse workup.

In a nutshell what I'm thinking would be an encompassing group called the
Guild of the Oaken Star (I like that a lot the more I see it), with three
different age breakouts and distinct names, such as growing gryce for the
tots, academy of the young wolves for the youths, and heirs of the steppes
for the teens. That way while all would be members of the Guild of the
Oaken Star at any one point they'd either be: Gryce, Wolves or Heirs.
