Greetings from the Canton of Lindenwood!

We have good news and bad news.

The Good News first:

We had a great event in June (and made a small profit) and are getting ready
to have another event next week. Queen's and Midsummer's Masqued Ball looks
to be a great event, with much fun for everyone - not just rapier fighters
and dancers. Please keep an eye out for work days/nights this coming week.
Since this is a Kingom Event, we are required to send 40% of the profits to
Kingdom, so we are hoping for a good turnout in the hopes that we can enrich
both the Kingdom and the Canton's coffers.

We have a new Marshall, Lord Phelippe. We have been looking at several
fighter practice locations and have found one in Duncanville and one in
Cedar Hill, so far. Anyone with other parks or preferred times, please
contact Lord Phelippe at Phelippe Descors [fraydude at charter.net] .

At Coronation, several members and friends of Lindenwood received
recognition. I didn't catch everything and was hoping to see a report of the
awards given come across the Ansteorra list, but I'll write up the ones I do
remember.

Crandall - Court Baron
Richard Nine Fingers - Rising Star
Emily - Queen's Glove
Donnelly - Star of Merit
Arnbjorn - AOA (That's my son, Anthony!)
Tomas - KSCA

Mahdi and Valeria - Court Duchy
Reinstated as Baron and Baroness of Steppes
Many thanks to TG Conal and Miguel who worked so hard as our Vicar and
Vicaress!!(Much cheering and clapping inserted here).

And now...the Bad news:

Lady Sunnifa is moving away (everybody say Awwwwww....). She has been the
backbone of this Canton for several years and we owe her a great debt of
gratitude for her hard work and perseverance. Queen's will be her last event
and the day after Queen's will be her moving day. Please help me thank her
by assisting in her move.

The office of VScribe is open and we are accepting bids. This is a *very*
important job in any group as we have all become very dependent on the
internet for the most timely, up-to-date information. We don't need all the
bells and whistles, just someone who can keep the information and links
current. I'll do it if I have to....but it won't be pretty.

The office of Treasurer is open. This is a *required* office for a group. If
we don't get a treasurer,somehow, someway....
we go inactive. Period. We have had one person show interest in the job,
but I still haven't received an application. (Nudge, Nudge).Unfortunately,
some people don't feel comfortable in applying for this position, so I have
an offer to make.

If anyone doesn't feel comfortable being the Treasurer, but okay with being
a Seneschal, I'm willing to step aside as Seneschal and apply to be
Treasurer. This is what Sunnifa did last year to keep the group from going
inactive. Our other option is for Master Philip to be the treasurer, which
he has offered as a last resort.

I have had two people approach me to apply for the positions of Chronicler
and Herald, but those positions are still open for bids. I'll help you with
the applications process if you contact me.

We will be preparing a yearly budget again and re-writing our financial
policy. The financial committe must now be comprised of the seneschal, the
treasurer, and at least one other branch officer. The committee members have
to either have already taken the treasurer's class or take it within 90 days
of appointment to the committee. At this point, that would be either Maria
or Phelippe.

Thanks for reading all the way down. Just a few more things:

We have a site for our Yule Revel/6th Night event. It is the Senter East
site in Irving (same as Queen's and BIONt)on December 30th. I've had several
people talk about bids, but ....non scriptum non est.....if it's not in
writing, it's not real...or something like that. WE NEED BIDS. It will be an
off-calendar event.

And, we need to start thinking about next year....I need an ER
deputy.....What events to we want to have next year? The Middle Eastern
Drumming Guild had 4 people in attendence and we had a pretty rocking group
going, with flute, doumbeks and a tambourine on one piece. Gothic Wars, here
we come! I also hauled out my harp...which may lead to another music guild
night for Renaissance and Medieval Music sometime.

I've also heard of an unofficial fighter training practice going on in
Duncanville on Monday nights at Mushir Mahdi's house.
Several of the Canton members will probably be found in that area with their
armor.

Again, thank you for staying with me on this e-mail. We will be discussing
all this at our August populace meeting.

In Service,

Mistress Xene Theriane, Seneschal to the Canton of Lindenwood
