War Practice is more involved than just dividing up.
True learning to work as a group is one thing and everyone
should indeed learn how to do work as composite group -
meaning shieldwall, spears/polearms and archers.
What happens when two sides meet upon the field?
That is the question that one and all need to look at.
Groups break up in smaller groups and even individuals
will find themselves separated and having to go one on one.
Where to go, how to survive is the question?
Some would have one and all believe that if you become
separated from the main group or unit, then you are useless
and shortly will become dead upon the act of separation,
they feel you should just as well walk off the field.
Sir Duncan provided a number of scenarios
to answer just these questions and prove that if one is
separated from a group or unit, then one can continue
to add toward the overall group effort by remaining on the field
and being effective.
