Good Day to all...
I will try to make this as short and to the point as I can...
1. New People - I think Lady Katheryn is wise to ask HOW did we each find the SCA? I know for me... I met this crazy "kat" lady who seems to draw newbies to her... and that kind Lady is our next Baroness.
The reason I was interested? A fascination with Historical Costuming & you could say the Ren Faires help influence that. I loved the feel of the times and when I found out a group does that all year round??
2. Planting seeds... seeds are tempermental at best. Not enough nuturing and the seeds become seedlings to only wither and die. Too much nuturing and the same thing happens.
We do need to put ourselves out there to sow future seedlings. However, I agree with Morgan. What if we do not gain newcomers and we die? Before anyone gets upset, here is my story of my first event....
Elfsea Spring Faire 2006. Lady Katheryn took me around and introduced me to a couple of people. I remember thinking "Its low key but fun!" I met one familiar person, our beauty Lady Elisabeta.
Then the camp site began to fill with Steppes people. And I became a 5th wheel. I was ignored as was my companion. Is this the way these people treated guests?
The redeeming factor? The reason I came back again?? Baron Armande. He was kind, attentive, polite and INTERESTED in me. And the A&S. And that... another comment for another time.
Let's do both. But remember, people what to be NOTICED. Talk to them... engage them... excite them... intrigue them. And then?? Ah well, that my fine fellows would mean we would have to find more space for our events. What a fine problem to have.
