First of all, if you haven't heard yet, His Majesty is honoring us with his
presence and fighting on Saturday! This is very exciting, and All-CON has had
his permission to use this on their blog and in their publicity. This will mean
our presence will be very noticeable...
I've finally had the chance to sit down and go through the information I've
received from the All-CON staff, and have the schedule for the fighting
demostrations and other demos.
About the passes: All-CON has been given us a fair number, but in addition,
they have also arranged to have DISCOUNT passes and one-day passes for SCA
people who can afford them. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR SCA MEMBERSHIP CARD (either blue or
white) WITH YOU, AND SIGN IN AT THE GATE. There will be an SCA representative
at the sign-in table who will handle the discount tickets. We are the only
group they are so honoring, so please, if you can afford to buy your own, please
do!
The vendor room opens Thursday night 10-midnight for set up, which I think is
a bit late for most of us. Friday, the vendor room opens for setup at 8:00
a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at which time it then opens to the public. As I don't think
our set up will require 7 hours to do, I was thinking of meeting whoever would
like to help about noon on Friday. We do NOT have the same booth we did last
year...we are in an 8' x 8' booth close to the stage area. There is another
approximately 8' x 6' of "dead" space between us and our neighboring vendor booth
that we can spread out into some, with the caveat that the vendor may need
some of the space for storage, as well. There will be some reserved storage for
us in the convention's private storage, as well.
As for demos and fighting demos, our schedule is:
Friday: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. regular demo in the Chinaberry Room (their largest
venue) I've already told them that this is problematical, depending on how many
people can get away from jobs, packing for the war, etc. to be there. We can
be nice and release it for others or change the time slot to later in the
evening. Personally, I think we probably should be nice and release it for another
demo.
Friday: 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. fighting demo in the Chinaberry Room. Please notice
that this is a 2-hour slot, and that there is a one hour break between our
first demo and this demo. This may also be problematical if we can't get enough
fighters there early enough to actually put on a demo. I'll go with the general
opinion of the fighters on this. Remember we need either list ropes and stands
OR marshals, but preferably both, to protect those watching! There will be
water setups in each room, but a waterbearere would be nice, as well.
Friday: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. regular demo in the Dogwood Room. I'm hoping to have
someone do a "Welcome to the Current Middle Ages" overview during this
timeslot.
Friday: 7 p.m. - 2 a.m. (yep, that's what they said!) open fighting demo in
the Trinity II Room. Now, I'm not expecting our fighters to fight for 7 hours,
and I don't think that All-CON is, either. But it could be a good venue for
pickup fights, or putting someone in loaner armor and showing them a few moves.
I'm not a marshal or fighter, so I don't know exactly what is viable here. I'm
also verifying that they mean for us to have that long a period of time.
_______
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. regular demo in the Dogwood Room. I'm hoping to
have an A&S demo in this hour.
Saturday: 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. "mini-tourney" in the Chinaberry Room. I am hoping
to talk His Majesty into doing a bit of a "court" to open a "mini-tourney",
then close the fighting demo with another "mini-court" to give an award of some
sort to the fighter that died best, or fought best, or something of that
nature.
Saturday: 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. regular demo in the Maple Room
Saturday: 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. regular demo in the Dogwood Room
_______
Sunday: 10 a.m. - noon fighting demo in the Chinaberry Room
Sunday: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. regular demo at the Trinity Stage. This is an
in-the-round venue, which might be great for a type of fashion show of costuming.
___________________________
Those of you who are fighting or marshalling, please get with me privately
about the type of room set-up you'd like to see, but remember, there isn't much
time before and after our fighting demos to do a complete room reset.
OK, now what I need is volunteers for the various regular demos. Please send
them PRIVATELY to me, with preferred days and times, but please give me a
second option. If you haven't already sent me your mundane name/SCA name, and
contact information, please do so SOON. If you already have, I will be sending
out to that specific list further information on passes, times, etc.
I do not yet have times when the vendor room opens and closes on Saturday and
Sunday, and therefore when the booth should be manned and when teardown will
be.
Stay tuned for further information!
In service,
HL Saqra al-Kudsi
SCA All-CON coordinator
Would someone please bounce this to the Elfsea and Glaslyn lists?
