[Steppes] Need welcoming homes -- in about two months

For the last month or so, a stray she-dog has been hanging around the alley
near our house. We've just discovered why.

There are now seven puppies in our backyard. By all appearances, they are
two-three weeks old. (We don't use the backyard much in the winter. Diane
found them when going out to work in the garden.) I guess I can't fault
the mother dog for choosing Todd's old doghouse as a place to have her
puppies.

The mother is a strong, healthy-looking mongrel -- about 60 pounds at a
guess. The father is from a good neighborhood.

Mostly we're kind of bemused to have baby puppies, since we don't, in fact,
have a dog.

We''l keep you posted.
