People do attend Steppes Warlord for many reasons. Warlord is a big
event, and it is silly to think that 600-800 people from all over the Kingdom
would be willing to do high persona play focusing on one theme. However,
those who are interested in having more reasons to attend Warlord
besides supporting the combat do find a theme attractive. It can give a
fun focus to A&S, to the cooking, embroidery and bardic competitons,
and garb-making, as well as activities for our youngsters.
I spoke with someone just today who said that the theme of Greek Mythology
used last year inspired her child to write a poem for the Children's Bardic
competition (for which she received much acclaim, and which the child looks
forward to enjoying again this year). I consider that reason
enough to make the effort. Warlord will not suffer without
a theme. But that's no reason not to try to make it interesting
for a broader range of people. Time is crushingly short this year,
and if we do not have a theme, so be it. I think it is worth pursuing
in the future, however. Regards to all, and thank you for your energetic
responses-
