Having finally gotten through the responses to make sure someone didn't bring this up - Not only does this behavior discourage those new people who may be working gate, but what about the newcomers who are standing in line? How does it make the local Hospitaler and the group as a whole look for someone to act that way? And what does it say about our organization as a whole for us to simply excuse this behavior by explaining that the person is a Noble or Peer, the very persona we are asking our newcomers to emulate? .02 worth Francesca -- "Catalina Elvira Osorio de Moscoso y Lopez de Xerez" wrote: I hesitated before posting this because I am not trying to be inflammatory, but our problems retaining new people is not just a generation gap thing. Working gate wearing a plain cotton tunic and skirt and .......no indications of rank.......I have been yelled at because I asked for proof of membership, talked down to by people trying to get the family max to apply to 6 adults and assorted children, yelled at by someone who thought the site fee was too expensive, had someone practically throw a bag of 300 pennies because they were mad about the surcharge, cussed out because someone who claimed to have pre-paid wasn't on the ACCEPS list, yelled out by someone who didn't have proof of membership and didn't want to pay the three bucks and talked to as if I were an idiot because I didn't know if Sir So-n-so was on site yet. I laugh it off because some of the same people treat me very differently when they see me in Court Garb wearing my insignia. But what kind of view of the SCA would that give someone who was working gate for their first time?
