  Hi all,

While we're waiting for to see if Connor's post is going to come through on its own, I thought I'd post a copy forwarded by him to me....

Howdy,

Last night at Populace I brought up the subject of having Brewer's Guild meetings once a month, to rotate between Temple, Rockdale, and Taylor, based upon those willing to host the meetings. The discussion was positive towards having such meetings and the consensus was that Wednesday night was the best day of the week for most of those present.

Further discussions after Populace encouraged me to post this email so those both present and not present at Populace could continue the discussions.

One suggestion was that we not limit ourselves to a single night per month just for brewing, since the Shire is still rather small, but to instead have a general "Guild Night", where one or more general A&S "guild" type meetings could take place. The types of guild events could be decided prior to the meeting, but the meeting date(s) would be set so people could schedule for them.

Another suggestion was that we have one night per month (on a regularly recurring week night -- or day if a weekend) per city, thus having 3 guild nights per month. That way people in each major city of the Shire would have one night a month that was local. Those that could or didn't mind traveling could meet up to 3 times a month.

The discussions led to the following conclusions:

1. Regularly scheduled guild nights will allow everyone to schedule times for A&S activities, whether learning new skills, practicing old ones, or preparing for events or Gulf War.

2. Having recurring social A&S events outside of Fighter Practice and Populace will allow Shire members to become and stay close through sharing common interests.

3. Regular guild nights will help recruit and retain newcomers, as we would then have "local" social gatherings on a regular schedule for them to meet everyone and become more aware of what the SCA is about. Newcomers could also learn A&S skills from active members and infect them with enthusiasm to keep playing with us.

Thus the questions I pose to the Shire are:

1. Are Wednesday nights the best for everyone interested and able to meet on a week night?

2. Do we want to have explicit guild nights for each type of "guild" (i.e. brewing, armoring, and other A&S type events) or one general "Guild Night" where multiple and/or changing A&S type events would be held?

3. Do we want to start with one guild night per month to rotate amongst Rockdale, Temple, and Taylor (based upon hosts available) or a separate guild night each month for each city (e.g. 1st Wednesday in Rockdale, 2nd Wednesdays in Temple, 3 Tuesday in Taylor, etc.)?
