[Vindheim] Vindheim Championship Question

I'm very happy to see all of the discussion about this topic! Thanks,
friends!

I appreciate the concerns which created the initial request. There are a
lot of really cool things and people in the SCA and we all want to have a
space/time to be appreciated and applauded for our efforts. I'd like
everyone to cogitate on this question: Is a championship tournament the
best way to show the principality your skills and be appreciated for your
efforts? Is there some other activity, perhaps with less responsibility and
expectations attached, that could accomplish a similar goal?

I also appreciate the comments surrounding scheduling a day for all the
various tournaments and Estrill's data on the weekends available for an
additional principality event. I'm very pleased to see the efforts to be as
accommodating as possible for the populace, entrants, and traditional
events hosted by local groups.

Is it time for Vindheim to go back to a full weekend event, instead of
trying to shoehorn everything into 8 hours? Either a camping event or a
hotel/convention center type of space? With the principality doing such a
great job of scheduling and accepting bids for coronet tournaments a year
in advance, it would be a lot easier for the populace to plan and budget
for the upcoming weekend events. Coronet Tournament and the Championships
could conceivably be scheduled for the same weekend. To follow Vincenti's
example and propose a schedule:

Saturday
Coronet Tournament in the morning/early afternoon
Rapier tournament in the afternoon
A&S could be set up all day to allow for ample viewing by the populace
Evening feast and halfla or European dancing

Sunday
Chivalric tournament in the morning
Missile weapons in the afternoon

What other suggestions do people have for the current conundrum? It's time
to throw out some wacky ideas and see if we can come up with a different
way of doing things that will allow for maximum participation and
accommodations so everyone can be included. I'm sure we can come up with
something together!
