Greetings unto one and all... I purchased a pair of gauntlets at ATYC, but
they didn't have any of the necessary pads or straps. Can you guys (and
gals... there were several very cute women in armor at ATYC...) please send
me patterns or descriptions of the best way to outfit these clamshell
puppies for battle?
                      Thanx,

but, to fix your gauntlets, get a pair of heavy work gloves that fit both
you and the inside of the gauntlet (hope you left enough room!)
Now, they need to be attached by at lest two points...the cuff, and the
fingertips. I added a piece of leather for a cuff onto mine, and rivetted
them in place, but you can just put a couple of rivets with backing washers
in if you wish (just make sure you finish the backs, so they don't chafe or
cut!)
As for the fingertips, I drilled two tiny holes where each fingertip rests
on the edge of the outer lame, and "sewed" them in with stainless steel
wire. If that doesn't leave you enough room in the fingers, try adding a
small leather tab to each finger.
Another way is to rivet (or "sew") a solid piece of leather across the end
lame, and stick your fingers under that. I don't thinkk it's particularly
secure, but some people disagree with me. (one added advantage to this
method is that you can get your fingers free without having to take the
gauntlet off; it hangs from your wrist whilwe you tighten your helm (or
whatever).)
I've seen a "keeper" strap across the palm (or the base of the fingers) on
some gauntlets, but I really haven't found that necessary.
there. I'm done.
