ANST-Announce - Rapier Reunion I

Hello!

Do you know how and why rapier combat in the SCA began?  How about where
the very first Ansteorran rapier duel took place and who the combatants
were?  Or, what was the first rapier combat award originally called?  Find
out these answers and more at the First Annual (possibly!) Rapier Reunion!

Conner Craig (Lord Conor Sigmundsson) and Steve Hemphill (Don Eule von
Haginbald) would like to invite you to a mundane party/BBQ for participants
and friends of the rapier community!

This is a chance for us to get together and celebrate "The Swashbuckling
Game" in the SCA.  Many old and new friends from around the Knowne Worlde
have already confirmed their attendance.  Come visit with some of the
"Founding Mothers and Fathers" of the rapier game we play in the SCA!  This
is a great opportunity for us to hear and tell old stories and new, meet
some of the "Old Guard" and in turn show them how far we have taken their
dreams.

This is a mundane party which will be held at Steve and Dawn's "country
estate" so they have *lots* of room to spar if you want to bring your gear
(and please do!).  Also, since we want our friends to have a pleasant but
safe time, feel free to bring along things with which to crash.  They have
a big house, but indoor crash space may be limited depending on how many
folks decide to stay.  However, please feel free to bring a tent just in
case (Steve and Dawn are happy to have tents set up on their property).
Also, the closest motels can be found in Cedar Park (about 9 miles away)
and Georgetown (about 10 miles away).  Also, please RSVP (not required but
it will be helpful) to Steve at producer at us.ibm.com so he can get an idea
of numbers.

When:  November 25-26, 2000
Time:  12n Saturday until whenever you leave on Sunday
Where:  Steve and Dawn Hemphill's (Eule and Ariella) house (directions
below)
Who:  You, and any friends you can drag along

What do you need to bring?
Stuff to play with, something to eat (something for the grill, a side dish
and snacks), something to drink, any old pictures, videos (a VHS vcr will
be available) and songs to sing or stories to tell, and if you want to camp
overnight, your camping gear.

>From Austin (on IH I-35):
Take IH-35, north, to Georgetown.  Exit the highway at exit 260 and turn
left (west) on FM 2243.  Go 7.7  mi. to CR 268 and turn right (north). Go
0.6 mi. and turn left (east) on CR 269. Go 1.2 mi. to CR 270 and turn right
(north).  Go 0.9 mi. to Baker Ln. and turn right (east).  Go 0.3 mi. to
Mike's Way (not marked) and turn right (south).  Go 0.1 mi. and our house
is the first house on the left (white, 2 story farmhouse).

>From Austin (on IH 183):
Take Hwy. 183, north, to Cedar Park.  From the intersection of Hwy. 183 and
FM 1431 (in Cedar Park), go north on Hwy. 183 for 4.2 miles to FM 2243
(Exxon station on the left).  Turn right (east) on FM 2243. Go 1.1 miles
and turn left (north) on CR 269 (Fab Con Inc. on corner).  After 0.4 mi.,
CR 269 will make a sharp curve to the right (east).  Go 0.2 mi. to CR 270
and turn left (north).  Go 0.9 mi. to Baker Ln. and turn right (east).  Go
0.3 mi. to Mike's Way (not marked) and turn right (south).  Go 0.1 mi. and
our house is the first house on the left (white, 2 story farmhouse).

>From Dallas (on IH-35):
Go south on IH-35 to Georgetown. Exit the highway at exit 260 and turn
right (west) on FM 2243.  Go 7.7  mi. to CR 268 and turn right (north). Go

We know we're holding this during a packed family weekend for most, but if
the initial response we've received is any indication, this is an event
we'll be talking about for years to come.  We hope you'll be able to be a
