some of the donations you give to the SCA are tax deductable whether or not
you are an officer, along the same lines if you donate to goodwill or
salvation army.  it also depends on what tax form you file what line such
deductions are put on.  Mostly, unless you have a lot of other deductions,
using the standard deduction includes an assumption that some was to non
profit (or not for profit) organizations.
