<P>i agree that Gothic shouldn't float. for me it's simple, i was inviting some people to an event at sweetwater, and when i explained where the site was they replied "oh the gothic site". I don't much care which one we use, and which one we don't, but it seems that people will relate events in the western region to the site where we hold gothic, and by giving gothic a home, people may not come to other regional events more readily, but they do like the stability of knowing where gothic is each year. I myself didn't like the coleman site, but what i like isn't important, we are in the business of drawing people to our events. If coleman has a larger drawing power than sweetwater, then i say we have to use it. I think that gothic will eb a good event no matter what happens, but i also think that the stable home we had given gothic was one of the things that turned a good event into a great event.</P>
<P>As far as sweetwater goes.....i love it, but then again i am rather nostalgic about it, i think that the pricce break we are getting is good for the region on the whole, and i would of course love to see us using that site again for events. I would not like to see gothic return to it though. Simply adding combat archery is a great draw, and then having room to add siege engines in...well.....you can do the math. I just think that we are in an age of uncertainty and decline as the SCA on the whole, so anything that will give us stability and growth would be a boon. </P>

<DIV></DIV>outside the region. I have been to every Gothic, and I have noted a marked
<DIV></DIV>increase of people since we kept it at the same site for a couple of years.
<DIV></DIV>There are many people that travel from all over this Kingdom to go to a
<DIV></DIV>melee event. While I have always been a fan of the Sweetwater site, for
<DIV></DIV>several reason, one of which is its location, I do tend to agree with his
<DIV></DIV>Excellency. Hord's Creek was a really nice site with a few things that could
<DIV></DIV>be improved. Also the City of Sweetwater was told what that site had and
<DIV></DIV>what it cost us, one of the reasons they dropped the price.
<DIV></DIV>It is no fun to travel so far to spend a weekend, that I will agree on, but
<DIV></DIV>I have always felt that a permanent site or nearly one, does increase the
<DIV></DIV>attendance. But we do expect a certain amount of travel, that is just part
<DIV></DIV>of this game, and while I sometimes hesitate to travel so far for just two
<DIV></DIV>days, Gothic is a full weekend for most of us, so it does give one a bit of
<DIV></DIV>time to relax before that drive home. Just ask the guys that come from
<DIV></DIV>Northkeep and Moonschadowe.<G>
