Greetings, kinsmen:

The following announcement is for an event coming up in a week. There was
supposed to be an ad for it in the April Black Star, but it got overlooked. It's
in the May Black Star, but will be mailed too late to do the event much good.
So, as a service to the event, I'm forwarding this information to our lists.
This event looks like a lot of fun. If you weren't planning to attend Loch
Baronial or Guardian of the Tor, you might consider attending this instead. :-)

Shooting Range:
For those planning to participate in the live fire exercise please be
aware that the range fee of $6 is not included.  Also you will also
need to bring your own eye and ear protection.

Fencing:

For those wanting to participate in the fencing competition, you will
need to bring your own fencing equipment.

Date: May 19th,2001

Date and Time: Registration from 8:30 to 9:00, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Location: Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, Texas and Austin Skeet Range,
Austin, Texas

Overview: Come join us for a full day of 17th century reenacting
including Pike and Musket Workshops, Period Clothing and Resources
discussion, Re-enactor's Primer, Dueling Etiquette Barber Surgeon
Demonstration and a Full Pike and Sword Tactical!

The Academy of the Soldier is a beginner event for 17th century re-
enacting. The event is primarily focused on the military aspect of
the 17th century. However, there will be a non-military, open forum
track covering women's topics in re-enacting.

Attire: Late 16th and early to mid 17th century attire is preferred.
Other period or fantasy clothing is STRONGLY, STRONGLY DISCOURAGED.
Otherwise, as this is a beginner event, modern causal/outdoor attire
will work. Long pants and closed toe, solid sole shoes or boots will
be needed for fencing. Appropriate fencing gear will be needed to
fully participate in rapier class and competition.

Lunch: Soldiers' Lunch catered by Ivy Road Catering Company

Fees: ECWSA Members: Military Track $14, Civilian Track $8 per
person; Non-ECWSA Members: Military Track $18, Civilian Track $10 per
person. Soldier's Lunch and Site fee included. $6 fee for Austin
Skeet Range not included.
