Fair Greetings to all the Land! The time for the prestigious Steppes Titled
Artisan competition is come! Make plans to attend on August 24th.
This year, for something totally different, Their Excellencies, Fritz and
Catrin, have requested that a Pas d'Armes be held on the morning of the event
for the benefit and amusement of the populace.
This formal tournament will be open to both armored and rapier combatants.
Defenders of the Steppes have been chosen, and all challengers are welcome.
There will be certain things required of all who seek to enter the tournament.
Each combatant will bring his/her arms to display in the challengers' gallery,
an honor shield, a crest and mantling to be diplayed during combat (either on
the head or on a display table to be provided) and his/her best courtly
graces. A herald to extoll the fighters' virtues and acclaim will be
necessary. If you cannot afford your own herald, free-lance heralds will be
available to help you at an even more exhorbitant rate. Bring plenty of coin!
Your best finery is expected, within the boundaries of SCA armorial
regulations. As this Pas is to be held INDOORS, sensible shoes are suggested
and will not be deemed unseemly if they detract from your overall fine
appearance.
Furthermore, a letter of your intent to enter the tournament must be
presented to Her Excellency on the morning of the tournament, during
introductions.
It is the intent of Their Excellencies to seek candidates for their Baronial
Guard from among the combatants, as well as among the competing artisans. IF
you wish to be so considered, please be sure to include your wish in your
letter of intent.
The Pas d'Armes will be a judged tournament, with the ladies of the gallery
and the nobles deciding who among the combatants have shown the greatest
prowess and courtly aplomb. There will be chosen a winner of both heavy and
light combatants.
Ladies of the gallery are expected to participate fully, showing graciousness,
beauty, generosity to the combatants who meet their approval, and generally
inspiring those around them.
In this first Steppes Pas d'Armes, there will be two rounds fought by both
heavy and light. There will be a counted blow round and a barrier round.
Armor inspection will begin promptly at nine o'clock am. Introductions and
challenges will begin promptly at nine-thirty. The tournament will begin no
later than ten o'clock am, and end promptly at noon. The tournament, while
open to any who care to compete, will be strictly timed. It is the desire of
Their Excellencies that the tournament not interfere with the Artisan
competition. Therefore, if there are more tournament hopefuls than time
allows, those who arrive early and are ready for armor inspection first will
be given preference.
If you have any questions about the tournament, please contact Their
Excellencies at khemail at swbell.net. For information regarding the Artisan
event and competition, please check the Steppes website or your Black Star.
We in the Steppes look forward to seeing many of you at our Artisan
competition and Pas d'Armes!
