Subject: [Ansteorra-archery] Wiesenfeuer Baronial XV Archery
Greetings,
Wiesenfeuer Baronial XV comes near and there are questions to be answered and challenges to be made. This event will be held Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2 - 5. The Baronial Archery champion will be decided in a very challenging format. The champion Tournement will be held on Sunday morning, it will be a double ellimination. There will be a Bowman's tourney on Saturday afternoon and a children's tourney on Sunday after the championship.
The championship begins with a head to head combat round, two archers will step to the line faceing two combat dumbies approx. 15 yards down range and first kill wins. Helms - gorget - heavy gloves (this is Rapier and/or Chivalric) with combat legal bow/x-bow and ammo are required.
The next two rounds will be added together, round two will be bow only and round three will be crossbow only. Yes, all competitors must use both a bow and a crossbow. While loaner gear will be made available for the first three rounds, those who bring and use period equipment will receive bonus points. Period targets will be used.
To this point, all those taking part will make it through round three. The next few rounds will be determined by the number of archers left standing. For those who's strong suit is static royal round style beware this contest should stretch you, and flexibility is your best weapon.
The final round will be shot using the new Baronial pass down Crossbow. It is a marvelously carved crossbow stained with black onyx with red and gold flames along the bottom. Which, brings me to the point of what is expected from the winner. We except that the champion attend any events that the Baony sponsors ( at least make best effort to ), paricipate in court, return next year and help run the next year's championship, and promote archery in general.
So, if you feel lucky, come be tested not only in skill but in versitillaity and flexability.
