People on the Move - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Officer
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of Jessica Van Hattem (Lady Astridr “Zahra” Ymirsdottir) for the position of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Officer for the Society for Creative Anachronism. Jessica is a technical writer specializing in procedural and policy documentation. Lady Zahra is a 15th-century Ethiopian diplomat’s daughter, preparing for a voyage with her family to the Italian peninsula. She currently resides in the Middle Kingdom.
The DEI Office is committed to promoting the values of inclusion throughout the SCA by facilitating the necessary conversations and decision-making that can lead to a more equitable and inclusive SCA. As DEI Officer, Jessica/Lady Zahra will be responsible for developing training for Kingdom Officers, promote accountability based on our core values, and support our existing processes to address inequitable actions including discrimination and bullying, among other duties.
Jessica/Lady Zahra will assume the office at the close of the October 2019 Quarterly Meeting.
