Maybe for the folks who have really gotten good at a craft, competition is
useful. But for those of us still learning, I would much rather see a
display with comments by 'judges' than worry about winning and losing.
The emphasis should be on the present achievement and on ways to improve
more than a very subjective winner thingie.  Whether one goes to the
trouble to break into skill levels or not, getting comments from others on
what's right and how to improve is generally more helpful than winning a
cookie for a bottle of mead.  If there's a competition (for those that like
winning stuff) with the commenting thing (for those of us interested in
getting help to get better) that would be the best of both worlds?
