"> I must agree with this. Especially after the last two I got. (I was a
"> bit disappointed, but hey, it could just be me.)

I rarely expect TI to have any articles that really interest me. The SCA
covers just too much time and space. I glance at the ads, skim the reports
and letters, and check the ToC to see if any of the articles look interesting.

 >> Middle | 129 | 40 | 12/6 | 38

 "> 38 pages / 4 = 9.5 sheets ?

OOOPS!! The last page was numbered 34, the inside back cover was unnumbered,
so I added 4. Was too busy writing posts to notice that this didn't work. On
checking, I see the first page is numbered 3, so the page count should be 36.

"> Since postage is based on multiples of 6 sheets, there is nothing saved
"> on postage. (Assuming standard paper stock on all 6 pages.)

So? Don't you save money on pages you didn't have to print?

 >> How do the East and Middle do this? No maps. Minimal wasted space.
 >> Small (but readable) fonts. Regular paper stock covers. Some Kingdoms
 >> could save more than others, but every bit helps, yes?

"> I'm not sure about this. I'd rather pay more for a quality newsletter
"> than have to squint, wonder where I'm going for an event (!), or have
"> it be too cluttered. (There is a reason places hire professionals to
"> do newsletters.) And yes, I like the card stock for covers, and our
"> local Barony newsletter uses it whenever it is not exactly 6 or 12
 "> sheets.

Frankly, I find a newsletter with consistent fonts far easier to read than one
with 3 different fonts on the same page and hand scrawled maps (with North the
gods know where). I can follow well written directions and double check them
against a (professional) map.

"> Btw, do groups have to pay for their event announcements? If not, why
"> not charge them if it goes over a half page? This will encourage
"> groups to make their information concise and short, but allow them to
"> be extravagent if they want to pay for it.

Pug, for shame!! You should know the Black Star's submission policies, being
a branch chronicler. Check the back pages of the Black Star (p. 37 in Oct.).
