For the most part, heralds are intitially dispised for their morning
ritual of screaming at the top of their collective lungs right biside your
tent. This hatred is further compounded by their insistance that they must
drag court out beyond all acceptable limits and their habit of speaking in
court at a level just under the natural hearing level of the majority of the
populace forcing us to have to go around all night trying to figure out how
many people got something, who got what, and then to decipher if this is
something we have to actually pay attention to.
On top of the hearld's usual proclivity of never actually announcing
what's going on at an event at a decibel level high enough to be remotely
understood. We have also found that this level is in direct reverse
preportion to how important the announcement is to you at any given time.
Mind you this completely ignores the fact that the heralds are in
total dominance over the passing or, what seems more likely, the rejection
of your well thought out and loved name and device. Many of my friends have
debated the reason behind this but most of the ones we came up with were
Freudian in nature so may be incorrect. But probably not.
In conclusion, they are generally annoying, pompos, pheebs who spend
most of their time making up for the few good things they do for the SCA.

And I should know, I'm one of 'em!
