Why do some treat heralds so badly

Simple. It's the same reason why you have to endure rudeness and
profainity from minors in public and deal with inconsiderate people
throughout your day.
These people are not familiar with proper ettiquette. They weren't
raised right, or they don't have the discipline that they need to act
socially. These people aren't the norm. But they tend to stick out
in your head. It's like a group of third graders, when one of them
wants to show off by smarting off to an adult, knowing full well that
the adult no longer has the authority to do anything about it.
