Buttspikes are common on period weapons. I think that they were 
originally placed there more to protect the end grain of the shaft, 
than as a weapon. I imagine that someone noticed how handy they were in 
combat and started sharpening them.

2 headed polearms? I'll bet that they existed, but I'm not sure. I 
doubt that they were common.
