And what was French primarily derived from? Why is it considered one of the 
"Romance languages"? By considering the lines of descent, it *does* make it 
easier to understand the ancestor.

Stefan, I do not mean to be snide in the above - it just came out that way, 
and dammee if I can think of a better way to phrase it at the moment without 
being MUCH more wordy.
