from the informal pole here *by teh posting contents), it seems safe
to suggest that the  vast majority, male and female find this
"game", intrusive, juvenile, unwanted and have developed amusing
ways to end the games of the children that insist on attmpting to
perpetuate it on a adult population that find the game unwanted..

what's wrong with simply walking up the person, introducing yourself 
*politely* and seeing if they are interested in talking to you rather 
than forcing yourself on them behind the pitiful mask of a prop in 
the name of "game".  you'll find the first approach far better at 
"breaking the ice" than the latter, which most often serves to 
*cause* ice to form.

eye contact and a amile will get you a lot farther in meeting a new 
person than a stupid piece of fruit .... now cloved garlic on the 
otherhand ...
