Haven't I heard this used, within an SCA context, to be someone who
promotes someone else within a circle that is not their formal teacher?
I think I have heard it in reference to either Peers or Nobles being the
patron.

Why not teacher? It's such a simple term that is under used. Although
tutor does work.

I see it when you enter into the relationship of Master/Student that the
terminology and function change. Again, this could be my own silly
ideals creaping in.

Unfortunately I haven't been following this closely, so I could be
rehashing or in a different conversation.

Ciao,
