I think it one of the better reforms of ... Tahdg Liath, perhaps?
I know he wrote a paper on the subject  ... that Ansteorra has
set wordings on all charters.  That's how they did it in period.
If it wasn't in the proper form, *the whole grant might be ruled
invalid*.  They didn't merely add all the lists of
"with scot and soc, tunnage and poundage, sackage and wreckage"
stuph just because they liked it; if one was omitted,
you had a long court case on whether or not you had that right.
