Well I didn't really see it as an attack but if it came accross that way I
will appologize. And yes I also have seen cases of people being advanced in
rank simply over the fact of being known by the right people. I have also
seen real worthy people that are passed over for awards because they have
irritated one or two of the wrong people.
As for these awards carrying rank *squire and cadet* I was simply once agian
refering to here and Calontir the only kingdoms of which I have any
experience.

I don't know if I am comfortable in the awarding of rank or honors for folks
with experience outside the SCA that has not been demonstrated in the SCA
though. I think I would be more comfortable with the awards if they would
simply demonstate some skill and then be recognized for that skill. There
in lies the problem as I see it though. All too often people in the SCA are
not being recognized for their skills or talants. I was asked once by a
king however how many people I had put in recomendation for awards for.
This managed to very quickly quiet the discussion we were having about the
lack of awards that can be prevalent at times. He simply stated that the
crown can not be aware of all the people in the kingdom needing awards.
So maybe we need to put some of these people that are needing the
recognition in for the awards we feel they deserve.
Now as to the fact that maybe there should be some different levels of
recognition available for those of us that are in the fighters side of the
house, both light and heavy? Of this I would have no argument. I just
don't know what we can do to create any awards that would suitibly recognize
those who are displaying skills in the fighting areas.
I appologize for the spelling errors and my tendency to ramble. I hope I
haven't wandered from the point too much but maybe this will start some
discussion that might prove valuable.
