was out with the "hunt list" digging through the used CD bins and found two two
absolute gems that should be of interest to those that like traditional
inspired (even period) songs, many done with traditional arraingements, and
done by a all female choral-centric group
  ladies and gentlemen, barbarians
of all ages, may i introduce you to the "Mediaeval Baebes

so who are they and what do they sound like
the following are culled from the
web links listed at the end of this message:

"
The Mediaeval Baebes are a 12 strong all-female singing troupe devoted to
the sounds of the swinging 1360's."

"
The group was formed by Katherine Blake from Miranda Sex Garden and
inspired by Dorothy Carter, mediaeval accompanist extraordinaire."

"Katherine Blake was already known for drawing the public's attention to the
erotic potential of Mediaeval Music through her singing with cult act act
Miranda Sex Garden
. "

"
The Baebes first gig took place in a sprawling derelict churchyard at the
end of the summer 1996. With torches flaming and buckets of acid mead, it was
a truly mediaeval experience. The Baebes did several more gigs that year
leading up to their hugely successful Mediaeval Christmas party which was held
in a castle. It was packed to the battlements with a raucous and revelling
Christmas crowd.
"

"
Not many singers of mediaeval choral music can be said to have performed in
graveyards, rock venues and S&M clubs, but then, the Mediaeval Baebes aren't
your average Early Music group."
"Ignoring the dry, academic approach of of
other practitioners of this enchanting music, The Baebes instead revel in its
charm and mystery, and their extravagant, spirited performances have won them
fans the world over."

their stufff is good for relaxing, general background, and would be most
excellent cut together into a bard-in-the-box "feast tape"
. highly
recommended.

(for those in the Austin area, and who are quick, there were copies of both in
the used bin's at Cheapo's on Lamar as of this afternoon
 saturday, 99/09/03)
