This has been a popular topic, as complaints about this event have
reached my ears. "My activity is on Friday, I can't make it that
day!"

(Interestingly, these complaints almost never reach me directly.
Only one person has complained directly to me about this issue;
the rest have been people bringing the complaints of others
to me, or public postings like this one I'm replying to.)

ATYC was always conceived as a 3-day event, starting on Thursday
and going through Sunday. This has been in every event flyer.
I talked about this six months ago at the Coronation of TRM Gunthar
and Sara. _Some_ activities have to be on Friday. I suppose
we could simply cancel whatever can't be fit into Saturday
and Sunday, but that seems quite an inadequate solution to me;
I don't know if it would please anyone else.

As for the A&S, my original thought was to simply have an A&S
exhibition, and let word-fame and rewards come from whomever
wanted to give them. The folks running the A&S had grander
ideas and have put them into play. I don't know if it was a
mistake for me to give my "blessing" to this; I've had several
laurels complain about the scheduling because they can't be
there. Maybe if there was less to miss, it wouldn't be
such a problem.

Likewise, I've gotten complaints from the rapier "community"
about the main rapier list being on Friday. I have _not_
heard complaints from the equestrian folks that their
activity is on Friday.

Not all Ansteorrans can afford to attend this event.
Not all of us can get Friday off. Some of us have
to work all weekend. Some will have to leave early
or arrive late because of various scheduling conflicts
in their lives. I honestly regret this, because every
day at this event is going to be great, and I'm sorry
that anyone would have to miss any of it.

I'm sorry the schedule can't please everyone. I hope
everyone will try to come and participate in this
event as best they can, and I'm sure that everyone who
does will have a great time. Many, many people have put
in much, much work -- with more to come! -- to make
this the best possible anniversary celebration
Ansteorra could have. For you.

It will be great, but not perfect. I'll share a
secret with you, though: the event we're having
_next week_ (!) is not exactly the same event I
conceived of a year ago. It's gone through quite
an evolution, and I really doubt that anyone could
have predicted just how much would get added onto
it.
