There is a record of a Maeve ConnalNion ruling "the western portion of that
barbarous Isle" that I ran across while researching the historical
background of the Tain. That was dated about 23 BCE, which would fit her
right about in the time frame of the Tain, so she had some basis in history.
It was recorded by a Roman scholar visiting Gaul (don't ask me which one,
it's been eight years since I did the report. He was some obscure scholar
who wrote mostly about the Germans and Danes, if that helps anyone)recording
tales of the northlands (probably to frighten little children with back in
Rome. We always got the bad rap)
Most historians agree she existed; Cuchulain on the other hand, that boy is
a pain in most historians ASCII to prove his existance. Me, I just take it
on faith (we don't do enough of that nowadays). It's a great legend, and
legends are meant to be learned from, not debunked or disected. This leads
me into my next post/rant (I do so few)

Yours in the Dream,
