A "Patent of Arms" is a level of award in the SCA. The Peerages ( Laurel,
Pelican, and Knight/Master of Arms) are all patents. In some Kingdoms a
Royal Patent of Arms is a  peerage given to those who have served as King or
Queen of that Kingdom.
