nice fantasy, bad reality ...

question ... how high is the wall? that in mind, how many are
willing to take a fall from that height? add your weight + armour +
arms together, compute force of terminal impact from that height ...
*major* serious injury potential ... and what of falling or being
pushed off the ladders during the heat of battle when emotion
over-rides common sense and falling onto someone on the ground ???

another point, all ladders have a rated safe carrying capacity ... .
from light to extra heavy duty(and increasing in cost)these ratings
are III(200#), II(225#), I(250#), IA(300#). considering just the
weight of the archer/climber, what with the high percentage of heavy
body types in the sca figher cadres, clearly in most cases the first
three catagories are alredy exceeded. factor in armour and other
gear and situation where you will have multiple people climbing the
ladders to "get the high ground" and you are setup for a tread
breakage causing a fall or complete ladder collapse (seen this first
hand in construction)

all in all, ladders are a *bad* idea in this scenario .. and i doubt
that any sane marshal would allow them (mention it to the scadian
lawyers & insurers and watch the blood pressure rise before your
eye's ...).

'wolf
... works on ladders frequently and has a respect for them and
gravity.
