to all ... this is mixed response that partially *should* be direct. 
i post it to balance and call for a public derailment of this thread
before it goes any farther.  if *anyone* has any comment on it, feel
free to shift it to *direct* email where it belongs ...

properly direct ...

firstly, if you have comments directed to specifically to me, per the
response ... please send them direct email and i might address them
... i don't play the "trail by elist jury" game.  if ya' really wanna
know why you haven't met me ... ask *direct* and i may explain if
it's true interest and not thinly veiled online politics 

to all others, terminate the direction of this particular
side-thread, i *choose* not to be baited onto that ground ... been
there, it's a ugly place, and a pointless waste of energies.

properly public ....

secondly, i am making reasonable comment on a publically stated idea,
not making a personal attack as you infer.  just because i think a
idea is a bad thing and has possible negative conequences has zero
reflection (most usually) on my opinion of a person.  it's called
being a free-thinker and having the right to a personal opinion, and
the right to state it in a public forumn .... i think it's a bad
idea, it in no way means i think you are a bad person.  

i just see it differently from most.  and unlike many, when i think
something is bad/negative, i will comment upon it ... too many who
share my opinions and perspectives have been silenced in this venue
from "public opinion".  this one has very tough skin and good armour.
  

per the response ... comment was on the thread drift into the
*historical* realities of the concept "crusade" and the baggge it
brings to the table when used ... having a particular interest in the
matter (paid particular emphasis on this area of medieval and islamic
history in my past university studies), the book reference popped up
at same time thread was developing, figured many would find it of
intertest.

so, no reason to take anything in this thread as a personal attack
directed against you.  it is not ... just dropping a concept into the
crucible to see it it is strong enough to survive the refining
process.

... was taught when you see a file of lemmings going over a cliff
that it's time to get out of that queue and try to figure out why
they are doing something so obviously anti-evolutionary.
